Mobile vs Stationary Crushing Plant: Which Fits Your Site?

A fixed plant is cheaper per tonne — if the material comes to it. A mobile plant is more expensive per tonne — but it goes to the material, and that is often the whole decision.

Both approaches crush rock. They differ in where the cost sits: a stationary plant concentrates money in civil works, conveyors and electrical infrastructure; a mobile plant concentrates it in the machine itself, and pays you back by removing haulage.

1. Capital cost and time to production

A stationary line needs foundations, a feed hopper, an elevated structure, conveyors, switchgear and often a building permit. That is typically 6–18 months from decision to first tonne. A tracked plant such as the UJC805 tracked jaw crusher arrives complete and crushes within hours of unloading. If you need cash flow this year, that difference is decisive.

2. Haulage: the number that usually decides it

Trucking raw rock costs money and usually creates the site's largest non-labour expense. If your material is spread over a large site, changes location, or comes from many small demolition jobs, a mobile plant removes most of that haulage entirely. If the material is in one place for decades — a quarry with a long reserve — haulage becomes predictable and a fixed plant's lower cost per tonne wins.

3. Output and product quality

Fixed plants can run larger chambers, higher installed power and continuous feed from a face shovel, so they reach higher tonnages per hour and can be instrumented for tighter product control. Tracked plants in the 150–400 t/h class cover most contract crushing, recycling and mid-size quarry work, and modern screening units produce well-graded products with acceptable shape.

4. Permits, noise and neighbours

Fixed plants are subject to planning, emissions and noise conditions at one address. Mobile plants move under transport rules rather than planning rules in many jurisdictions, which is why urban demolition and temporary sites run tracked equipment. If you work in a city, mobility is also a compliance strategy: the machine leaves when the site ends.

5. When a hybrid makes sense

A common compromise is a small fixed primary crusher fed by dump trucks, with a mobile screening and stacking train downstream. The heavy reduction happens where the material is plentiful, and the screening and stockpiling equipment follows the demand for different product sizes.
