Transporting and Setting Up a Tracked Crusher

Moving a tracked crusher is straightforward when the weights, dimensions and ground conditions are checked before the trailer arrives — and expensive when they are not.

A tracked plant is designed to be moved regularly, but “mobile” does not mean weightless. The figures that decide whether a move is routine or a permit exercise are on the machine's specification sheet, and they should be checked before you buy, not on the day of the move.

1. Know your three transport numbers

  • Operating weight — determines the trailer class and axle count.
  • Transport length and width — decides whether you need escorts, route surveys or night moves.
  • Transport height — the usual surprise on rural routes with low bridges or overhead lines.

As a reference point, the UJC906 tracked jaw crusher class of machine travels as a single load on a low-bed trailer, without dismantling. Larger units may need the conveyor folded and the hopper wings removed; both operations should be documented in the machine's manual.

2. Loading and securing

Tracked crushers are normally driven onto the trailer under their own power using loading ramps. Check that the ramps match the track gauge, that the trailer deck is clean and dry, and that the machine is secured at the points marked on the frame — not through the tracks. Always lower the machine onto timber or steel stools so the tracks are not carrying the load during transport.

3. Site preparation on arrival

  • A level, well-drained hard standing — a slight fall is useful for drainage but must not exceed the manufacturer's limit.
  • Enough space for the excavator to feed the hopper from one side without slewing over the operator area.
  • Clearance at the discharge end for the product conveyor and stockpile, plus access for the loader that will move it.
  • Bunds or barriers where the public could approach, and dust suppression if required by the site permit.

4. Start-up checks that prevent most call-outs

  • Jaw or rotor clear of material; belts tracked and tensioned.
  • Hydraulic oil and diesel levels; no leaks under the machine.
  • Emergency stops and guarding in place; track tension checked.
  • Magnet and conveyor controls tested before feeding begins.
  • First feed kept light until discharge setting and belt speeds are confirmed.

5. Plan the line, not just the machine

If the crushing train includes a screener and stackers — for example a UZS1230 screener and a UTD35 stacker — lay the whole train out on paper first. Belt discharge points must line up, and every unit needs its own escape route for the next move.
